Vest Size Guide: How to Measure Your Chest and Find Your Fit
Choosing a vest size online is easy once you know your chest measurement. Here is how to measure at home, and how our reversible vests are sized.
A vest should sit close to the body without pulling across the chest or gaping at the armholes. Getting that right online comes down to one number: your chest measurement.
How to measure your chest
- Stand relaxed with your arms by your sides, wearing a thin tee.
- Wrap a soft tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, just under your arms.
- Keep the tape level all the way around and snug, but not tight.
- Read the measurement in inches. If you are between two numbers, round up.
How to measure your shoulders
Ask someone to measure across your back, from the point of one shoulder to the other. This tells you how the vest will sit at the armholes, which matters most for a sleeveless cut.
Our reversible vest sizes
Our vests are true to size. Choose the size that matches your chest measurement. Measurements are in inches; shoulder is measured across the back of the vest.
| Size | To fit chest | Shoulder |
|---|---|---|
| S | 40 | 15 |
| M | 42 | 15.5 |
| L | 44 | 16 |
| XL | 46 | 17 |
Layering over a shirt or knit
The vests are cut for an easy fit over a tee, shirt or fine knit, so you do not need to size up for layering. If you plan to wear yours over chunkier knitwear most of the time, and you sit between two sizes, take the larger one.
The quickest check
Lay a vest or waistcoat you already love flat, measure across the chest from armpit to armpit and double it. Compare that with the chart above.
